Hurricanes, blackouts, or any other disaster can cut your home from power for days. In this article you will find out about solar backup power and the advantages over traditional gas powered generators.

A good way to have electricity no matter what is to install solar backup power in your home. If any outage should occur the solar backup will kick in and supply you with electricity until the power has been restored.

Conventional backup power systems include a generator that’s being powered with gas. These systems has a number of drawbacks.

* They run on gas which is limited and is becoming more and more expensive * They make a lot of noise. * They pollute the environment. * They only run as long that there’s gas in the tank.

Now if you would have a solar backup power system installed in your home you would still get the electricity, but without the high noise of a running generator, cost of gas to refill it and without the unhealthy fumes. Plus it has a long life.. 25 years without any down take. Now how does solar backup power work?

Well, it’s fairly simple. A solar generator uses an advanced battery that supplies you with AC current. The battery is charged with an high efficient solar panel that continuously charges it. Then a charge controller will monitor the charging so that the battery doesn’t overcharge. The solar panel will work as long as the sun is shining and up to 80% efficiency when it’s cloudy.

However it has a drawback and that is that it will not charge the battery during night because there is no sun shining, but hopefully you will be asleep during night and not be using so many electrical appliances.

Lets recap

1. A solar power systems will supply you with electricity during an outage. They use the sun for power which removes the use of a noisy generator, gas fumes, and refill and maintenance costs. 2. These systems have a very long life span. About 25 years without any downtime. 3. A drawback is that it’s only producing power during the day.
